Association warns of intense protest against badly damaged roads

Mangalore, Feb 10, 2012 : Yashodhara Shetty, the president of the Auto Driver Owner Association, warned that a number of associations, organizations, local people, and college students will organize an intense protest on the road on Feb 27 if the Zilla Panchayat fails to repair the Punjalkatte road before Feb 25. He also warned the Zilla Panchayat that it will be held directly responsible for any accident that occurs on this road.

Addressing reporters at a press conference held at Press Club on Feb 10 Friday, he said that vehicles can no longer be plied along the completely damaged 9km stretch of road covering Punjalkatte, Berkala, Kattadapadu in Belthangady and Bantwal taluk.

He further said that the dust that arises whenever a vehicle moves along this road is causing health problems to the residents. The potholes are not only causing driver fatigue, but also making two wheelers and auto rickshaws prone to accidents.

Although the local people have complained about the pathetic condition of these roads through personal visits and phone calls, those concerned have taken no steps to repair this road, he said.


Poovappa Moolya, the president of the Vishnumurthy Yuvaka Mandala Madapalke; Ravi, the president of New Friends Berkala; K. S. Salu, the district president of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Prathishtana; and many others were also present.
