BJP Poll List Announced: Angara, Matandoor Out; Four Incumbents to Continue

Mangaluru, April 11, 2023: BJP Karnataka has released a list of 189 candidates for the state assembly elections. The list includes all the eight constituencies of Dakshina Kannada and four constituencies in Udupi district.

State Minister Angara from the Sullia constituency and Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor have been dropped, and in their place, Bagirathi Murulya and Asha Thimmappa will contest the polls in their respective constituencies. In the three constituencies of Mangalore, the incumbents Vedavyasa Kamath and Dr. Bharat Y. Shetty secured the tickets again for Mangaluru South and North, respectively. For Mangaluru constituency (Ullal), Satish Kumpala will contest the seat, which is the sole Congress constituency held by MLA U. T. Khadar. Harish Poonja will continue in Belthangady and Umanath Kotian in Mudabidri constituency.

Sunil Kumar, Yashpal Suvarna, KK Kodgi and Suresh Shetty


Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat has been dropped, and in his place, Yashpal Suvarna will contest. Gurme Suresh Shetty will represent Kaup, Kiran Kumar Kodgi will represent Kundapur, and Sunil Kumar will represent Karkala.

Yashpal Suvarna is a first-time contender and seems to have been rewarded for aggressively campaigning for the hijab ban and cow activism. He is seen as a promising new face in the region.
