Udupi, Dec 10: Deputy Commissioner, Hemalatha issued orders of baning vehicle movement Car street, Udupi as measure of enhancing security to Krishna Temple from January 5, 2010.
She said security zone will be created in the Car Street area as a measure of protecting the centuries old Krishna Temple. Alternative parking arrangements will be made before the due date. She speaking at a meeet organized to discuss on the issue on Wednesday. The ban will be initiated considering all the inconveniences to the public and shop keepers arround the area. A clear plan will be drawn to minimise the people’s difficulties.
Religious places are one of the targets of attack by the terrorists who are much ahead of all the intelligence planning. Let us not under estimate them. Danger possibilities are innumerous. Prevention is the only alternative. There will be little inconvenience to people by banning vehicular movement in the area,” she said.
With widening of road in front of Vidyodaya school the movement of vehicles on Manipal-Beedinagudde route can dacilitated. Autorickshaw stand will be started at four places in the town. Parking facility for other vehicles will made separately.
Making a point, Prawin Pawar, Supt. of Police said “the mock exercise last month helped to identify the loopholes of the security in the district. Sri Krishna temple is the most vulnerable place and a potential target according to the information of the intelligence agency. It is very difficult to maintain the security without a screening mechanism. It is high time to implement all the necessary security measures; he said. Six gates will be installed at specific points to screen the movement of people and vehicles coming and going out of the city. Elaborate and systematic parking arrangements will be set up behind Rajangana. Separate parking slot for 4 wheelers and 2 wheelers will be provided.
The walkable distance from the parking place to the centre of the Car Street will not exceed more than 50 metres. “As many mutts and temples are concentrated in this particular part of area, it is essential to have strong security arrangements. Parking the vehicles here and there has created problem. The situation has made it inevitable to have a parking zone,” said MLA Raghupathy Bhat. Dy SP Jayanth Shetty, CMC President Dinaker Shetty, Commissioner Gokuldas were present on the occasion.
