Bantwal man gets 10 years RI for raping endosulfan victim

Mangaluru, Sep 12, 2023: The 2nd Additional District and Sessions Special Court has passed a judgement sentencing a man from Peruvai village of Bantwal taluk to ten years of rigorous imprisonment for  raping an Endosulfan affected young woman.

 

The convict is Rajesh Rai (33). A complaint was lodged against him in 2015 alleging that he had raped a 19 year old Endosulfan victim on October 1 of that year. It is said he had promised to marry the girl and had outraged her modesty while she was alone at home.

A complaint was lodged at Vittal station. The then ASP Rahul Kumar had filed a charge sheet under the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act. There were a total of 27 witnesses of whom 14 were heard in the court.

Apart from 10 years RI the court has also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the convict. The Legal Services Authority has also been directed to pay compensation to the victim.
