Mangaluru, August 20, 2017: "I have read about the book on soldiers written by Baraguru Ramachandrappa. It is good. Withdrawing it is not proper," said veteran writer Saara Aboobakker.
She was speaking after releasing ’Bakaaliya Hoo’ a musical play authored by Sudhir Attavar inspired by a Persian Story, at Hotel Woodlands Auditorium on August 19, Saturday.
"It’s not that soldiers do not err. They can naturally make some mistakes. Baraguru has narrated the same in his work. But the opinion that such articles would not be written and the decision to withdraw the text book is an attack on freedom," said Saara Aboobakker.
Regretting that false information is spread through social sites like WhatsApp thereby misleading youth, she also deplored the lack of reading habit in youth.
Author Sudhir Attavar who spoke, said the book has been brought out by Abhiruchi Prakashana. The original Persian work "Gul-e-Bakavali" is said to have been authored in 7th century, he said adding a Bengali writer had translated it to his language. The Kannada version is a translation from Bengali, he informed. Already the Kannada work is being staged by Amateur Drama Association and has seen five successful shows. It is also slated to be staged in Mangaluru and Udupi in September, he added.
