Belthangadi: Volleyball coach booked under POCSO act for harassing minor girl

Belthangadi, April 28, 2025: A 24-year-old volleyball coach was arrested by Belthangadi police for allegedly harassing a 17-year-old student through inappropriate mobile messages.

The accused, identified as Syed from Karkala, has been booked under the POCSO Act. Reports indicate that Syed persistently sent distressing messages to the minor. On April 26, activists from a Hindu organization tracked him down in Ujire, assaulted him, and handed him over to the police. A search of Syed’s mobile phone revealed several obscene photos and videos, including images of other young women.

Following the minor’s complaint, a POCSO case was registered on April 26, leading to Syed’s arrest. He was produced before the Mangaluru POCSO court later that night and was granted bail. The investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, a counter-complaint has been filed at the Belthangadi police station against Prajwal from Ujire and over ten others for allegedly assaulting Syed.
