Belthangady, Dec 28, 2016 : Dharmasthala Police have on December 27 Tuesday arrested a Bajrangdal activist on the charges of attempting to rape a minor.
The arrested person is Umesh (25). He is an autorickshaw driver by profession. The incident reportedly took place on December 24 when the accused barged into the house of the girl and tried to molest her. It is learnt he had also threatened her against revealing the matter to anyone else. The victim is a fourth standard student.
It is said there was a delay in registering a complaint as the girl’s mother was under pressure from Bajrangdal against lodging complaint.
Meanwhile, the Bajrangdal has been accused of trying to save Umesh who is said to be close to Bhasker, a Bajrangdal leader from Dharmasthala.
Though the complaint was lodged on December 24, no case was registered owing to pressure. Finally DySP Ravish CR instructed the police to file the case. The accused has been produced before the court and remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
