Mangaluru, February 3, 2025: Miscreants have decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 10,08,000 and Rs 3,000 cash from the bag of a passenger on board a KSRTC bus from Bengaluru.
In a complaint, Rajagopal Karanth, aged 68, residing in Yelahanka, Bengaluru, said that that his wife’s ancestral home was at Mulkaje Maada, Maninalkuru village, Bantwal Taluk. As there was a function at his wife’s hometown, the complainant carried gold jewellery in a box along with Rs 3,000 in cash, which he kept in his luggage bag. Accompanied by his wife and son in law, he boarded a KSRTC bus from Majestic in Bengaluru on the night of February 1.
During the journey, when the bus halted near Kunigal, the complainant, his wife, and son in law left their bags, which contained the gold and cash, inside the bus and went to the washroom. Upon reaching Karinja Cross in the early hours of Sunday, the complainant got off the bus and opened his bag near the bus stop, only to find that a total of 144 grams of gold worth Rs 10.08 lakhand Rs 3,000 in cash had been stolen.
It is suspected that some thieves would have stolen the gold and cash when the bus stopped near Kunigal. A case has been registered at Bantwal Rural Police Station under Sections 303(2) and 305(b) of the BNS, and an investigation is under way.
