Mangalore April 23: A 2-day national-level seminar “New Trends in Nationalist Writing” organized by Besant Evening College in collaboration with DK Sahithya Parishad was inaugurated on April 23, Friday.
Dr. Rajendra Chinni, professor of Kuvempu University inaugurated the event and delivered the keynote address in which he remarked that rewriting our history is a part of de-colonizing ourselves. Speaking about literary criticism, he said that we tend to review only the verbal and structural aspects of literature and ignore the political, cultural, and social aspects of it. He encouraged students to read in between the lines and understand the hidden meanings of a work of literature. He explained national history as “an illusionary vision of colonial thought, which we tend to believe as the ultimate truth, but which might differ in perspective.”
Scholars from different parts of the country participated in this seminar. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, the president of the DK Sahithya Parishad; Prof Siddaramaiah; Nagar Narayana Shetty; Udupi Jagadish Shenoy; and Sathish Shetty were present.
