Reports said the Pejawar seer  had earlier promised to attend the function scheduled to be held on February 1 and release the book.

But, a few Bhajrangdal activists who staged a protest outside the residence of DK Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, a few hours before the function, threatened that they would resort to severe protest if the seer attended the function. “ Why should a Hindu seer take part in such a function?” was the question of the protestors.

Organizers of the book release function  had reportedly even booked flight tickets for the seer to come to Mangalore, but received a message that the seer would not be able to participate, said one of the programme organizers.

The book by Abdussalam Puttige, editor  of Vartha Bharathi, was released by Ganesh Amin Sankamar at a function held at Town Hall later.
