Bharath Scouts and Guides plans to start ’Sea scouts’ in coastal Karnataka

Mangaluru, Sept 24, 2023: The Bharath Scouts and Guides (BSG) has plans to start "Sea Scouts" in the regions of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada. This announcement was made by P.G.R. Sindhia, the Chief Commissioner of BSG Karnataka, speaking with media in Mangaluru on Friday, September 22.

Addressing the media during a workshop attended by officials from the Department of School Education and Literacy, as well as taluk-level BSG nodal officers, Mr. Sindhia explained that the Sea Scouts initiative would be modeled after the successful Air Scouts program already in place in Bengaluru and Belagavi. The primary objective of the Sea Scouts program is to inspire and encourage students to consider a career in the Indian Navy.

Mr. Sindhia disclosed that the necessary approvals for the Sea Scouts program have been obtained, and the organization is now actively seeking qualified teachers to facilitate its implementation. The Sea Scouts program is expected to be fully operational starting from the academic year 2024-25.

In addition to the introduction of the Sea Scouts, Mr. Sindhia shared that the BSG has ambitious plans to increase its membership across various categories, including cubs, bulbuls, scouts and guides, and rovers and rangers. The organization aims to raise its current membership of 7 lakh to an impressive 10 lakh.

Furthermore, Mr. Sindhia, a senior politician, revealed that the BSG has formally requested the State government to reserve 500 engineering seats and 50 medical and dental course seats for individuals affiliated with the Scouts, Guides, Rovers, and Rangers programs. Additionally, they have urged the Higher Education Council to instruct universities to set aside seats specifically for Rovers and Rangers. Notably, the BSG has taken proactive steps to establish disaster management teams consisting of Scouts, Guides, Rovers, and Rangers in 11 districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, within the State.
