Mangaluru, Aug. 24, 2025: In a strong statement issued today, the Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of the Diocese of Mangaluru, condemned the brutal terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

The Bishop expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, describing the incident as “a blot on humanity.” The victims, including families with women and children, had been visiting the scenic region — often hailed as the crown jewel of India — for a holiday when terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Reports indicate that the attackers specifically targeted men, shooting them in the head.

“This heinous act of violence is not only sinful but also unacceptable in any civil society,” the Bishop said. He prayed for the eternal rest of the deceased and a speedy recovery for those injured in the attack. “May God grant strength and consolation to the bereaved families during this time of immense grief,” he added.

Calling for swift and decisive action, Bishop urged the government to bring the perpetrators to justice without delay. “No one responsible for this horrific act should be spared,” he emphasized.
