Brahmavar: Saffron brigade’s protest against arrest of Goraksha Dal leader turns violent

Udupi, Feb 16, 2014:  At least two shops were vandalised and a police jeep stoned at Brahmavar on February 15, Saturday after a protest organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bhajrangdal  opposing the arrest of District Goraksha Dal leader Dinesh Mendon turned violent.

The situation was later brought under control by the police who resorted to a lathi charge.

Later, the Congress workers under the aegis of the Brahmavar Block Congress organised a protest in front of the local police station demanding action against all those responsible for the violence. The party legislators and parliamentarian too were present. The protest was withdrawn after the cops assured action.

As many as three complaints have been lodged with the police in connection with the incidents.

Two days ago,  Dinesh Mendon was apprehended by the police along with two others on the charges of robbing one Yaseer who is an accused in the case of posting obscene photos of a girl from Udupi on Facebook.
