Byndoor: Crocodile rescued from open well in Nagoor village

Udupi, July 31, 2024: On Wednesday, Forest Department personnel, aided by local fishermen and residents, successfully rescued a crocodile from an open well in the backyard of a house in Nagoor village, Byndoor taluk, Udupi district.

The crocodile was discovered in the well of Vishwanatha Udupa, near Odeyara Mutt in Nagoor, on Tuesday. Residents suspect it reached the well during recent floods caused by heavy rains. They immediately notified the Forest and Fire and Emergency Services Departments. Initial attempts to remove the crocodile using a cage on Tuesday were unsuccessful.

On Wednesday, a team of fishermen, led by Manju and Sudhakar from Koderi village, used a fishing net to safely capture the crocodile. Local veterinarian Dr. Nagaraj checked its health, and CCTV cameras installed by Nagoor Network and Security Solutions monitored the well round the clock.

Byndoor Tahsildar Pradeep Ram, Police Sub Inspector B.N. Thimmesh, Range Forest Officer Sandesh, and other officials supervised the rescue operation. Residents gathered to witness the rare sight of the crocodile in the well throughout Tuesday and Wednesday.
