Mangalore Today News Network

varnashi 1Bantwal, Dec 27, 2013: Varanasi Subraya Bhat, the Founder President of CAMPCO, the apex co-operative of areca growers of the region, passed away at his residence at Adyanadka in Bantwal taluk on December 27, Friday.

He was 87 and was ailing  since some time. Bhat is survived by two sons and two daughters.

It was on July 11, 1973 that CAMPCO came into  being due to the  hard  efforts put in by Bhat, that too at a time when prices of areca had seen a slump.

He had  struggled to develop CAMPCO into a successful co-operative of areca growers  over the years. CAMPCO had  been always there for the cause of areca growers whenever they were in distress.

Several social and political leaders have condoled the death of Bhat.
