Mangalore, Aug 23: Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa arrived in Mangalore at 8:45 a.m. with a huge programme list. He first laid the foundation stone of the Rangamandira at Bondel and of the synthetic track at Mangala Stadium.
Following the ceremony of laying foundation stones, he visited Urwa Market and presented 21 newly constructed houses to SC/ST beneficiaries. He also laid the foundation for the ropeway bridge at Sultan Battery.
He then visited the First Grade College Car Street, First Grade College for Women at Balmatta, and Government Pre University College for Women at Car Street to lay the foundation stone for the developmental projects worth Rs. 8 crore sponsored by Dr. P. Dayananda Pai and P. Sathish Pai. He also laid the foundation stone for the Mangalore Commissionerate office.
In his inaugural speech at Town Hall, the CM said that today is the most memorable day in his two years in power. The welcome dance presented by specially abled children and the rakis they tied to the CM’s wrist was an emotional incident. He said that he will release a fund of Rs. 100 crore for the welfare of the teachers and students of the school for the specially abled.
The minister also assured that he will release Rs. 5 crore toward the development of Kadri Park as a tourist centre. He said that Mangalore is the only city in Karnataka, which has arranged so many foundation stone laying ceremonies during one event. Stating that Rs. 2 crore will be released for the synthetic track at Mangala Stadium, he said that the ropeway bridge will be completed in one-and-a-half year.
Criticizing the Opposition, the CM said that the opposition ministers are demanding his resignation without knowing that the problem will not be solved if he resigns. He said that he will not resign and that he will accept all criticism, take it as a challenge, and work for the development of the state till the Opposition changes its opinion of the present government.
He said that he is willing to resign immediately if it will solve the problem of electricity and added that if the type of developmental projects launched by the BJP government had been launched 4-5 years back, the city would have been developed by now.
Regarding illegal mining issues, he said that Karnataka was the first state to ban iron ore export and that he has banned the licensing of ore and sand transportation. Speaking about the importance of protecting natural resources, he said that the state has enough technology to manufacture sand and mineral related goods.
Krishna J. Palemar, the district-in-charge minister, welcomed the guests. Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation, proposed the vote of thanks. MLA Yogish Bhat presided over the programme. The chief guests were Home Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya and Minister for Youth Services and Sports Goolihatti D. Shekar.
