Mangaluru, Dec 4, 2014: Interceptor speed boat of Coastal Security Police caught fire at Tannirbhavi beach in Mangaluru on Thursday December 4.
Sources said that the boat which had gone on patrolling from morning 8 a.m. and the boat was returned ashore near the police quarters in Tannirbavi at around 2.30pm. Later the boat was caught fire and about 80 per cent of the boat has been damaged.
Though fire fighters rushed to the spot and tried to douse the fire, the boat had completely burnt by then. However, no loss to life his taken place as nobody was present in the boat during the accident and the reason for the accident is yet to be ascertained.
The Mangaluru Coastal Security Police had three interceptors, which has the responsibility of surveillance of coast from Thalappady to Hosabettu. Suspicious movement of boats or vessels is being monitored round the clock by the cops to prevent terrorist and other anti-national activities.
