Mangalore, Oct 2, 2012 : Canara CBSE High School observed the 144th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Oct 2 in the Canara Girls’ Centenary Hall.
Kochikar Sudhakar Pai, correspondent; Ramesh Kedilaya, school advisor; and Joy J. Rai, principal, were also present. Sanjana Acharya of IVA and Vaishnavi L. Gatty of VA spoke on the importance of this day. Since Oct 2 happens to be the birthday of Lal Bahadur Shashtri too, the students also paid their respects to him.
The students enacted scenes from the life of Gandhi and sang his favorite bhajans. Kochikar Sudhakar Pai also released CAN Spoorthi, a trimester news bulletin, on this occasion.
The event included the investiture of Scouts and Guides followed by a shramadhan. Guide Captain Shubha Vishwanath and Scout Master Sudhir Balepuni conferred badges and scarves on the scouts of Abhimanyu Scout Troop and the guides of Urmila Guide Company.
All the students and staff members of Canara CBSE High School attended the event.
