Case of cheating Dubai’s Fortune Group of Hotels: Accused arrested

Udupi, October 14, 2024: Udupi CEN police have arrested a man wanted in the case of swindling  The Fortune Group of  hotels in Dubai owned by Udupi based NRI entrepreneur Praveen Kumar Shetty of over Rs 2.5 crores.

The accused  Nagesh Poojary (31) was arrested in Nanjangud soon after the District Sessions Court and  State High Court cancelled the bail granted to him by the JMFC Court in connection with the case.


Cheating case


The accused worked as an accountant and hailed from Barkur. He has been entrusted to three days of police custody.

A case was earlier registered in Brahmavar police station as per the complaint lodged by Sunil Kumar, the Manager of Fortune Hotel.

Shetty who was appointed as an Accountant of the Fortune Group of Hotels was promoted as Chief Accountant in 2022. He had come hometown on a three month leave in 2023 in view of his wedding. However he had sought additional 15 days leave which was declined. Later he had submitted his resignation via email. On suspicion the hotel authorities checked the accounts when the discrepancies came to light. He had reportedly cheated the firm of Rs 2,55,63,000 in phases.
