Bengaluru, April 06, 2023: The Congress has named 42 candidates in its second list for Karnataka Assembly elections scheduled on May 10. As expected, the Congress gave the ticket to the Mogaveera community leader Prasad Raj Kanchan.
With the eight constituencies in Dakshina Kannada and five in Udupi districts, Congress has finalised candidates for five and four respectively in the first two lists. Vinay Kumar Sorake from Kaup, Gopal Poojary from Byndoor and Dinesh Hegde Molahalli from Kundapur names were in the first list.
With multiple claimants, Congress now faces a tough challenge in candidate selection in the remaining three constituencies - Mangaluru South, Mangaluru North and Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district and Karkala constituency in Udupi district.
Congress was wiped out in all five constituencies of Udupi district while it could retain only Mangaluru (Ullal) out of eight segments in Dakshina Kannada district in the 2018 elections.
