k ashrafMangalore, Jan 2: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DKDCC) is currently fraught with quarrels. K. Ashraf, the former mayor and president of the Mangalore City Block Congress Unit, has written a letter of resignation to G. Parameshwar, the KPCC president, in which he stated that a former KPCC president insulted him in public.

In his letter, Ashraf said that he had worked loyally for the party for the past 25 years and had also occupied posts of great responsibility. He said that the senior members of the Congress recognized his abilities as he was the elected member of the MCC for 3 successive terms and was its mayor for 1year, adding that he was elected as the president of the brand new Mangalore City Block Congress Unit for his experience and abilities.

Accusing B. Janardhan Poojary of insulting him in public when he took charge on Dec 9, Ashraf said that Poojary made references to opposition within the Congress with regard to his candidature as mayor of Mangalore owing to corruption and that this reference had hurt him. Ashraf also noted in his letter that he was asked to indulge in groupism, which he did not approve of.

Demanding an investigation into the allegations leveled against him, Ashraf said that he cannot work for the party with tied hands, adding that the allegations of corruption against him at this point of time and during a public party is “uncalled for.” He also said that B. Ramanath Rai, the president of DCC, refused to accept his resignation.
