Congress leader Chittaranjan Shetty injured after pistol misfires in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, February 5, 2025: Dakshina Kannada Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Bondala Chittaranjan Shetty was injured following misfire from his own pistol at Anantady village under Vitla police station limits on Tuesday, according to the Dakshina Kannada police.

The Vitla police said Mr. Shetty, a resident of Shamboor, was at a stone quarry site in Anantady when the incident took place.

Sitting in a chamber at the office of the quarry owner, Mr. Shetty was cleaning his licensed pistol. He was injured on his left leg when there was a misfire. Mr. Shetty, who was admitted to a private hospital in Adyar on outskirts of Mangaluru, is out of danger, the police said.

Superintendent of Police N. Yatish said no case was registered immediately. The police are inquiring into the incident. A case will be registered if any cognisable offence is found, he said.
