Congress leader’s son arrested in Udupi hit-and-run case

Udupi, November 17, 2024: Prajwal Shetty, son of Congress leader Belapu Deviprasad Shetty, has been arrested by Shirva police in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident on November 13. The accident claimed the life of auto driver Muhammad Hussain.

The collision occurred around 5 a.m. near Maria Bakery in the Military Colony area of Belapu, Kaup taluk. Hussain was riding his two-wheeler when a speeding, unidentified vehicle struck him, causing severe injuries to his leg, hand and head. Despite being rushed to KMC Hospital in Manipal after initial treatment in Ajjarkad, Hussain succumbed to his injuries.

The driver fled the scene without aiding the victim. CCTV footage later helped police identify the suspect. Following an intense search, Prajwal Shetty, who had been absconding, was arrested.

Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
