Congress wins Puttur constituency in a keenly fought contest

Mangaluru, May 13, 2023: In a welcome relief for the Congress party which has suffered major setback in the coastal belt despite forging ahead in other parts of the state, its candidate Ashok Kumar Rai has managed to win the prestigious Puttur constituency after a tough fight.

It may be recalled here that in Puttur BJP had faced rebellion from ticket aspirant and Hindutva leader Arun Kumar Puttila who had contested as an independent after the party chose Asha Thimmappa Gowda as its candidate.

Though Rai had initially taken leader, later Puttila was marching ahead and finally in a keenly fought election, the Congress candidate has triumphed.

Ashok Kumar Rai has secured 64687 votes, while Puthila has secured 61336 votes. Asha Timmappa Gowda of Bharatiya Janata Party    secured 36526 votes.
