Cosmetic clinic shut down after death of youth during surgery

Mangaluru, September 26, 2024: A cosmetic surgery and hair transplant clinic operating at Bendorewell in the city has been shut down temporarily by the Health Department following a recent incident wherein a youth who had been to the centre for treatment died. The family members of the deceased Mohammad Mazin of Ullal Akkarekere have alleged that negligence during administering anesthesia prior to the surgery was the reason for the death. The Health Department registered a suo moto case.

On Wednesday, following the directive of Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, the District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr H R Thimmayya closed down the centre.

Dr Thimmayya said that it has been learnt that the patient had been for a liposuction procedure to treat gynecomastia. An investigation by an expert team will reveal the facts behind the case, he said.
