Udupi, Dec 23, 2020: Udupi District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda has informed that the Covid-19 test reports of all the eight persons who had arrived in Udupi district from Britain and other nations have come out negative. The tests were done in the backdrop of the new mutant of fast spreading Coronavirus detected in Britain.
Speaking to reporters at his office here on December 23, Wednesday, he said five people from London, two from Toronto in Canada, one person from Dublin in Ireland had arrived on December 21. Of them two are from Kundapur, four from Udupi and three from Karkala. Their throat swabs were collected on December 22 and today all the reports have been received and are negative, he said.
All these eight people will be in home quarantine for 14 days after which their throat swabs will once again be tested. In the meantime if they develop any Covid symptoms while in quarantine, throat swabs would be immediately collected for testing. He also said as the Covid reports are presently negative there was no need to trace primary contacts.
The Health Officer also stated that in case anyone who arrived from abroad tests positive, then their samples will be sent to the National Institute of Virology at Bengaluru for gene testing to identify the Covid strain.
