Crime against women:CPI(M) demands stern punishment to guilty

 Mangalore, Jan12,2013 : There is a need to change existing laws and ensure tougher punishments for perpetrators of crime against women, said CPI(M) District Secretary B Madhava.


Addressing a protest organised by the party in front of the DC office in Mangalore on January 11, Friday, the CPI(M) Leader said  sexual offences against women has seen an alarming rise in the recent past.

He said the party has already appealed to the Justice JS Verma Commission  to award life imprisonment to rapists and also not to give any for reduction in jail term.


He further said  fast track courts must deal with such cases and the judgements should be pronounced within three months.


Strongly criticizing RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat for his comments on women, Madhava accused the RSS leader of turning a blind eye to the several cases of sexual offences against tribals and Dalits in rural India.


Several party leaders including KR Sriyan, Vasanth Achary took part in the protest.
