DAR cop gets lifer for sexually abusing, instigating minor girl to suicide

Mangaluru, Oct 21, 2022: The Additional District and Sessions (POCSO) Court has sentenced  a constable in the District Armed Reserve Police to life imprisonment for instigating a minor girl to suicide after sexually abusing her.

 

The convict is Praveen Salian (35) of Bajpe Siddarth Nagar. He had befriended the minor girl on Facebook in 2015 and was in touch with her through social media and phone and also used to have obscene chats with her. Later he had  demanded Rs one lakh cash or gold and had threatened the girl who panicked and ended her life at her home by hanging herself on June 10, 2015. She had also left behind a death note which turned out to be a crucial evidence.

A complaint was lodged in Ullal police station and the police after investigation had filed a charge sheet.  Salian whose  offence was proved has been sentenced  to life imprisonment. A penalty  of Rs 10,000 has also been imposed on him.
