DCC pays homage to Indira Gandhi on her 93rd birth anniversary

Mangalore, November 19: The members of Dakshina Kannada district congress committee paid homage to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 93rd birth anniversary today at the congress party office.

 

 

The leaders offered floral tributes to the portrait of Indira Gandhi on the occasion. 

MLA Ramanath Rai, Moideen Bava, owner of Mangalore United cricket team, Shashidhar Hegde, former Mayor,  Naveen D’Souza, Corporator were present on the occasion.

Indira Gandhi, born on November 19, 1917 in the politically influential Nehru family, was the first woman Prime Minister of India. Her father Jawaharlal Nehru was a pivotal figure in the Indian independence movement and the first Prime Minister of independent India. She was elected to Parliament for the first time in 1964 and also served as the country"s Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the government of Lal Bahadur Shastri.

 

Gandhi was assassinated by two of her Sikh bodyguards at her residence on October 31, 1984.
