DK District observes Kannada Rajyotsava

Mangalore, November 1:A total of 44 achievers from  Dakshina Kannada were honoured with district-level Rajyotsava awards during the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations convened at Nehru Maidan here on Monday, November 1.

The main function was inaugurated by the District In-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar at the Nehru Maidan in the morning. Mr. Palemar also presented the Rajyotsava awards to those who have made yeomen contribution in various fields such as art, culture, Journalism, social work as like. An attractive march past and lively cultural programmes by school children brought in colours to the celebrations after the flag host.


The district in-charge minister took the salute at a march past conducted by civil police, Traffic police, NCC, Scouts and Guides, Bharath Sevadal, Karnataka state reserve police, District armed reserve police and Home Guards.

Earlier to this, there was a procession from Jyothi circle to Nehru Maidan, which featured various tableaus. MLAs Yogish Bhat, U T Khader, Deputy Commissioner Shobhod Yadav,  City police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police A Subramanyeshwar Rao among others were present in the procession.


Later Rajyotsava awards were conferred on Forty two achievers like the ace Konkani expert Venkatesh Baliga, litterateur D. G. Nadka of Sullia, Vijaya Raghava of Ujire, Lancy Macarenhas of Mangalore, Mr. Purandar Bhat of Mangalore, Deremail Harikrishna Thantry, Attoor Sadananda Shetty, Geeta Bai of Ullal, Shrinivas Bhat of Kateel, news photographer Sudhakar Yermal, Udayavani senior editor Surendra Wagle Nallikatte Narayan of Surathkal, Vishwanath of Mangalore, Shivaram of Kasargod, Vinod Shenoy, Peruvai Narayan Shetty, Jabbar Samo Sampaje, M. Narayana, Ms. Satyavathi of Mangalore, B. Seetharam Kulal of Mangalore, A. K. Vijaya of Mangalore, Narahari Prabhu of Mangalore, B. Seetharama Kulal of Mangalore, A.K. Vijay of Mangalore, Narahari Prabhu of Muduperar, Muralidhar Kamath of Mangalore Mr. Keshava Shettigar of Moodbidri, Mr. Madhava Thingalaya of Surathkal, Mr. N. Karantha Peraje, Dr. H. Prabhakar of Mangalore, Mr.Chidananda of Kasargod, Ballamanja Purushottam of Belthangady, Pattabhirama Sullia, Somashekar Shetty of Ujire, Mr. Sunita Ullal, Dinesh Kumar Mangalore, Mr.D.K.Suresh Dharmasthala, Mr. Ananda Asaigoli, Panambur Yadava Serigar, Mr. Monappa Poojary Mangalore Mr. Manjunath N of Buntwal, Mr. K. Mohan Rao of Buntwal, and Ms. Neha B of Mangalore. Simultaneously, awards were conferred on 4 institutions too.


Zilla panchayat president K Santosh Kumar Bhandary, Mangalore south MLA N Yogish Bhat, and MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, participated as chief guests. Member of parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel and Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty among others were present.

 

Karnataka celebrates its formation day or Rajyotsava today. On this day in 1956, Mysore state, comprising most of the area of the erstwhile princely state of Mysore, was merged with the Kannada speaking areas of the Bombay and Madras presidencies to create Karnataka state.
