DK Street Vendors Co-operative Society inaugurated

Mangaluru, Jan 10, 2024: The DK Beedibadi Vyaapaarasthara Cooperative Society, a first of its kind co-operative society for street vendors, was inaugurated in Mangaluru on January 10, Wednesday by Mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur and Padma Shri Harekala Hajabba.

 

 

 

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said measures have been taken to have a separate business zone in the heart of the city for the street vendors and that the new system would soon come into effect.

He said it has been estimated that there are around 1600 street vendors in the city. Already orders have been issued for survey of street vendors in ward levels, he said adding street vendors zone would be created on the basis of demand. He further sought the co-operation of street vendors in this regard.

President of the Sangha B K Imtiyaz, MCC Opposition leader Praveenchandra Alva, CITU General Secretary Sunil Kumar, progressive thinker Prof Rita Noronha, CITU District President J Balakrishna Shetty, Street Vendors Welfare Association President Mohammad Mustafa and others were present.
