Dakshina Kannada & Udupi celebrate Maha Shivaratri with grand festivities

Mangaluru, February 26, 2025: Temples across Dakshina Kannada district are hosting religious fervor as devotees gather to celebrate Maha Shivaratri on Wednesday. Special rituals, poojas, and devotional activities are being conducted in various Shiva temples to mark the occasion.

Prominent temples such as Kadri Shri Manjunatha Temple, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Kudupu Sri Anantha Padmanabha Temple, Sri Mangaladevi Temple, Sharavu Sri Mahaganapathi Temple, Kavoor Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, and Pandeshwar Mahalingeshwara Temple are witnessing grand festivities.

At Karinjeshwara Temple in Bantwal taluk, the celebrations began with a temple fair, devotional singing, and religious programs scheduled throughout the day. Similarly, Narahari Parvatha Kshetra is hosting special poojas, night-long vigils, and bhajans.

Several other temples, including Vitla Sri Panchalingeshwara Temple, Netla Temple, Bantwal Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Sri Kshetra Odiyoor, Puttur Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Uppinangady Sri Sahasralingeshwara Temple, Ujire Sri Janardhana Temple, Surya Sri Sadashivarudra Temple, Pajiradka Sri Sadashiveshwara Kshetra, Indabettu Sri Ardhanareeshwara Temple, and Ballamanja Sri Ananteshwara Swamy Temple, are observing the festival with special poojas and sacred rituals. The festive atmosphere has also driven up the demand for flowers and fruits across the district.

Udupi: The spirit of Maha Shivaratri is equally vibrant in Udupi, where devotees are participating in special prayers, abhisheka, and cultural programs across the district’s temples.

Key temples, including Sri Ananteshwara, Sri Chandramoulishwara, Sri Umameshwara, Sri Brahmalingeshwara, and Sri Mahalingeshwara, held Panchamrita Abhisheka, special archana, and Bilvaarchana from early morning.

The celebrations will continue with cultural performances, devotional bhajans, and an all-night jagarane. Many devotees are observing fasting and participate in night-long prayers, marking the spiritual essence of Maha Shivaratri.
