Ujire, December 11: The second day of the World Tulu Conference began with the inauguration of various sessions by the isiting Professor of the Mac Millions University, Germany, Dr. B. A. Vivek Rai at 9.30 am on the main stage. The inaugural address of Dr. Rai concentrated on origin and development of Tulu language.
In his inaugural address Dr. Rai emphasized on the need of making Tulu the official language in Tulunadu. “Many of the villagers in Tulunadu can speak only in Tulu which makes them unable to speak in the Panchayat meetings that often employs Kannada as a medium to exchange the thoughts. Thus the voices of the countless villagers go unheard” Dr. Rai observed. There is a dire need for the staff and officials in Govt. offices to get damiliar with. It is not difficult to learn Tulu if a person reads minimum of ten words from Dr U P Upadhyaya’s tulu dictionary daily.
Primarily tulu must become one of the administrative languages. The famous tulu works must translated to English and other international languages to popularise Tulu literature. It must also enter the internet world. Tulu blogs must come up and can be called ‘Rampani Bale’. he suggested.
“Tulu literature is within us. I write using such very common words in Tulu” Dr. Rai said adding that Tulu should soon show its presence on the internet.
Dr U P Upadhyaya, chief editor, tulu dictionary said that regardless of including tulu in the eighth chapter, it must be given the classical status. Tulu novels had existed even before the kannada novels. The novel ‘Mitthabail Jamunakka’ had received world wide recognition, he said. Scholars must conduct more research on the tulu language. The Tulu language and grammar must be studied thoroughly.
Later Dr K P Putthuraya, literature, Bangalore, presented the cultural demonstration on ‘The beauty of tulu as a langauge’ , while Dr Padekallu Vishnu Bhat, principal, Government first grade college, Hiriyadka, recited the tulu epics.
The day of the World Tulu Sammelana was both serious and glamorous. Bolywood and Kolywood stars have added glamour and glitter in addition to many celebrities visiting the Sammelana. It was a blend of personalities from the tinsel world and literary giants participating in various programs of cultural and folk art. Sunil Shetty and Vinod Raj being Tuluvas originally made their presence and mesmerized the crowd.
The Sammelana of the second day inaugurated by Suniel Shetty along with Gopal Naika Machar, well known Pardhana artiste. Suniel Shetty and Gopal Naika inaugurated the second day Sammelana by beating drums as sign of the launch of the cultural festival in the Vishwa Tulu Sammelana. Vinod Raj was accompanied by her mother Leelavathi.
Renowned saxophone artiste Kadri Gopalanath enthralled the audients with his genius performance. A Tulu play ’Ankaboolya’ staged by ’Kadala Nada Kalavider, Kudla’ was veryspecial indeed.

Mr. Kumble Sundar Rao, President, Yakshagana Academy spoke on the Tradition and splendor of Yakshagana. Mr. Prabhakar Joshi aldo spoke on the occasion. Mr. Siddakatte Vishwanath Shetty , famous Yakshagana artiste said Yakshagana is an ideal medium to educate the masses.
Yakshagana Demonstration
The third session of the World Tulu Conference concentrated on the issue related to the rich Yakshagaana Tradition. The veteran Yakshagaana artist Sri Kumble Sundra Rao addressed the gathering and upheld the greatness of Yakshagana and its distinct style and said that their worlds are interesting and intriguing.
Siddhakatte Sri Vishwanath Shetty, Yakshagaana artist also spoke on the occasion. The issue he covered was related to rich Tulu expression in Yakshagaana. Prabhakara Joshi , Well known Yakshagana Critic spoke about the Present and future of Yakshagana.
On this occasion 45 minutes Tulu and Kannada Yakshagana demonstration was also organized. Under the guidance of Balippa Narayana Bhagavata, Bhagavata Puttige Raghuram Holla , Veteran artist of the “Tenku Thittu Yakshagana” presented the pieces of Shumbha Nishumbha Vadhe and Satyanapuratha Siri Yakshagana prasangas.
This traditional theater form Yakshagana is combination of dance, music, actor created dialogues, costume-makeup, and stage technique with a distinct style. The different ‘Vesha’s such as humour, bannada vesha, Stree vesha, Pundu Vesha and various styles, scene, conversation were demonstrated by various artists like K Govinda bhat, Shridhar Bhanday, Paniyani, Arva Koragappa Shetty, Kumble Sridhar Rao and others with the co-ordination of Shruthakeerhiraj.
