Declare Dakshina Kannada district as flood-hit district, demands Ivan D’Souza

Mangaluru, July 11, 2022: Dakshina Kannada district has received maximum rainfall this time and there has been sufficient loss of property, therefore the government must declare the district as a flood hit district and provide suitable compensation, demanded Congress leader Ivan D’Souza.

 

Addressing press persons here on July 11, Monday he said rains have partially damaged 429 houses while 56 houses have been permanently damaged. The government has announced a flood relief of Rs 5 crores. Those who suffered losses during last year’s rain are yet to receive compensation, he said.

 He demanded that the compensation to be given to those whose houses are damaged must be increased.

Ivan D’Souza  who is the  General Secretary of the Organising Committee of a grand event at Davangere on August 3 to mark the 75th birthday of former CM Siddaramaiah said the programme is expected to be attended by around 10 lakh people and  Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other leaders  will participate.

Former corporators Bhasker Rao, Sabitha Shetty and other party leaders were present at the press meet.
