Mangalore, March 26: Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district Mr. V. Ponnuraj visited the spot at Valachchil near Adyar on March 26, after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), who has constructed faulty structure on the National highway 48 stretches between Brahmarakootlu and Valachil. He also asked explanation from NHAI official on the recent accident, in which four houses damaged during the highway widening work.
This happened on the night of March 23, Tuesday. A roller was leveling one side of the widened highway, as a result of which the resistant wall collapsed and the walls and roofs of the houses were partially damaged. Fortunately, there were no casualties as the residents of the houses were alerted on time.
When the local people complained about mishap, he assured to pay suitable compensation to them. Speaking on the occasion, he told reporters that, retaining walls of the roads will be constructed using hard stones in a slanting manner with a strong base.
