Devotees will not be allowed inside temples for Nagara Panchami

Mangaluru, July 21, 2020:   In the wake of the Covid-19 scare, devotees will not be allowed to enter inside temples during Nagara Panchami festival in the district on July 25.

 

District In-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary while presiding over Dharmika Parishat meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office on Monday, said as the Covid-19 situation is yet to be contained in the district, the public gathering for religious programmes will not be allowed. On the day of Nagara Panchami, only priest and staff of the temples will perform the puja rituals to the serpent God.

The gathering of the public for Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chathurthi and Varamahalakshmi Vratha is also banned. People should observe the festival in their houses, added the minister.

The temple committee of the Ananthapadmanabha Temple at Kudupu, one of the famous temples in Dakshina Kannada dedicated to Naga (Serpent God), had said that on the day of Nagara Panchami, no sevas, theertha and prasadam will be distributed to devotees. There will be no mass feeding as well.

The temple will not accept tender coconuts, fruits and milk from devotees on the day of Nagara Panchami, to be offered to the serpent God.
