Mangaluru Aug 25, 2016: Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty inaugurated Sri Krishna Janmashtami Programme which was organized by District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and Kannada and Culture Department at Town Hall today, August 25, Thursday.
In her inaugural address Shakuntala Shetty said that there is a misconception in the minds of the people that Krishna had thousands of wives. But Lord Krishna can be depicted as the protector of girls, she said and added that at the same time people need to understand Sri Krishna’s positive message to the society.
Expressing her disappointment over the poor turnout for the programme, Shakuntala Shetty said this reflected the declining interest of the people towards Indian culture and its tradition.
Additional DC Kumar said that Sri Krishna Janmashtami is also being celebrated as a government programme since three years. However not many people attend these programmes, he regretted.
MLA Mohiudeen Bava said that the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi can be depicted as “Krishna Naadu” where people gather in large numbers to celebrate the auspicious day. We need to act according to the teachings of Lord Krishna who has spread the message of peace and harmony, Bava said.
ZP CEO Sri Vidya, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Pradeep Kalkura and others were present.
