Mangalore, Aug 9, 2013:State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader has said that it has been decided to have a 250 bedded multi-speciality unit at District Wenlock Hospital.
He was addressing a meeting held at the Hospital on August 8, Thursday after interacting with a team which had arrived from Bangalore to make a feasibility study on the upgradation of the hospital.
He said Wenlock presently has 704 beds and added the government would soon decide on increasing the beds to 1000. He said any portion of the hospital building would be demolished or any available space in the hospital would be utilized to open the multi-speciality unit.
He also directed the study team to give top priority towards upgradation of facilities at the casualty department operation theatre, mortuary and prisoners cell.
He said there were plans to offer best treatment to patients at Wenlock on the lines of the Arogya Bhavan in Bangalore.
Dr Narayan, Deputy Director of National Rural Health Mission, Dr Nischith, Deputy Chief Finance Officer, Dr Ganesh, KSHS Advisor and Dr Malavika are in the study team.
Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo, Dr Rajeshwari, District Surgeon of Wenlock Hospital, Dr Erayya, Resident Medical Director, Dr Shakuntala, Medical Superintendent of Lady Goschen Hospital were also present.
