Belthangady, Oct 25, 2017: Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade is recognised all over for his dedicated service to mankind, said Yaduveeradutta Wodeyar, the scion of the Mysuru Royal Family.
He was speaking at the Pattabhisheka golden jubilee celebrations of Dr Veerendra Heggade held at the Amritavarshini auditorium of Dharmasthala on October 24, Tuesday. Yaduveer also recalled the association between the Mysuru royal clan and Dharmasthala and said the Dharmasthala Mela had presented a Yakshagana at the Mysuru Palace as early as 1812. The sandalwood supply for temple use was also later procured from Mysuru, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade said it was the greatness of the Kshetra that was inspiring him to do such noble deeds. He said he never considered the responsibilities on his shoulders as a Dharmadhikari as a burden.
He spoke about several projects and added a Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital would come up near Nelamangala in Bengaluru. A high school will come up on a land donated by Ramakrishna Mallya in Mangaluru, he added. There were plans to promote research in varied fields from nano technology to stem cells in the medical institutes run by the Trust, he added.
Writer and retired principal Gururaj Karjagi delivered the felicitation address. Forest Minister Ramanatha Rai, Hemavathi Heggade, Maanila Swamiji, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Surendra Kumar, Harshendra Kumar and other family members were present.
Dr Heggade was brought to the function venue in a huge model of Ambari followed by a colourful procession.
