Dr Devdas Hegde Art Memorial Centre inaugurated

Mangaluru, April 21, 2023: The Dr Devdas Hegde Art Memorial Centre was inaugurated on 20th April in the KSRM Trust Building, Light House Hill, Mangalore.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The ceremonial lamp was lit by Dr Vinay Hegde- industrialist and Chancellor of Nitte University, Justice Santhosh Hegde- former Solicitor General and Karnataka State Lokayukta, Captain Prasanna Hegde and  elders of the artist’s family.

In the formal program that followed, Dr Vinay Hegde spoke of his warm association with the late Dr Devdas Hegde, recalling his exceptional surgical skills  and also his later role as administrator of leading institutions, including those of the Nitte group. Eminent orthopedic consultant Dr Shantharam Shetty lauded the late surgeon’s renowned prowess and his voluntary work for poor patients. Both speakers made known that his premature passing from having contracted COVID was a result of selfless service during the pandemic.

Giselle Mehta, novelist and art analyst highlighted the large corpus of Mrs Jyothi Hegde’s paintings that would be housed in the gallery. They represent the various experiences that imprinted themselves on the artist’s deepest being, whether depictions of women, local landscapes or scenes from foreign travels. Her visits to the world’s famous museums imparted aesthetics evident in her paintings.

Mrs Jyothi Hegde in her response thanked the speakers. She recalled the illustrious career of her late husband and the encouragement he offered to her artistic evolution. Ms Sai Geetha compered the program. Public will be welcome to visit the Art Center.
