Mangalore, Dec 1, 2011: Dr. Saroja, the RMO of Wenlock Hospital, on Thursday inaugurated the HIV/AIDS Awareness Week 2011 organized by Dr. M. V. Shetty College of Social Work on the premises of Government Wenlock Hospital on the occasion of World Aids Day
The students presented a street play to increase AIDS awareness among the public.
Dr. Ranjith Shetty, the trustee of Dr. M. V. Shetty Memorial Trust, presided over the inaugural ceremony and said that AIDS/HIV is a problem that can be tackled through awareness alone. He opined that education alone can control it.
Harshavardhana Shetty, the lecturer of Dr. M. V. Shetty College of Social Work, and Prof. Suma S. Rai, the principal of Dr. M. V. Shetty College of Social Work, were also present.
The awareness week will comprise a wide range of programs and will conclude on Dec 5.
A peer educators training program for adolescents will be held on Dec 2 and a community awareness program will be held on Dec 3.
On Dec 5, the participants will interact with HIV+ people and distribute fruits and sweets among them. The valedictory ceremony will be held at Sneha Sadan in Kinnikambala in Mangalore.
