UAE, September 24, 2024: Dr. Sushil Jathanna, Director of CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, Udupi, has been honored with the Milestone Global Award and the IHW Global Leaders Award for his outstanding contributions to healthcare. He received these prestigious accolades during ceremonies held recently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
On September 14, Dr. Jathanna was awarded the Milestone Global Award, along with a Gold Medal and a Certificate of Excellence for his hospital, at the Milestone Global Awards and Conclave 2024, held at the Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel, Ajman, UAE. This award recognizes leaders who have excelled, innovated and contributed to the growth of their industries. It was handed over by HE Dr. Bu Abdullah, a renowned Emirati entrepreneur and philanthropist.
On September 21, he received the IHW Global Leaders Award at the 10th Integrated Health and Wellbeing (IHW) Summit held at the Hyatt Regency, Deira, Dubai. This award honors individuals and organizations working towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by fostering a healthier, safer, and more equitable global community. It was handed over by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Former Union Health and Environment Minister and Amruta Fadnavis, singer, social activist and wife of Devendra Fadnavis, Former Chief Minister and current Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Dr. Jathanna is a distinguished leader in healthcare, both in India and internationally. He has been instrumental in revitalizing Lombard Memorial Hospital, one of the oldest hospitals in the region, founded by Swiss missionary Dr. Eva Lombard in 1923. Appointed Director in 2014, when the hospital faced closure, Dr. Jathanna has transformed it into a thriving 150-bed multispecialty facility that delivers high-quality care with compassion.
A native of Mangalore, after completing his MBBS in KMC, Mangalore in 1982, Dr. Jathanna has obtained post graduate degrees in Internal Medicine, Public Health Medicine, Health Policy and Management abroad. His 32-year career in the UK includes prominent leadership roles, such as becoming the first Indian CEO of the National Health Service (NHS) in Cambridgeshire and serving as Managing Director of Care UK’s Healthcare Division. His extensive global experience has driven the modernization and expansion of Lombard Memorial Hospital, which now features upgraded facilities, community services and attached educational institutions in the nursing and paramedical fields.
Dr. Jathanna has also served as President of the Karnataka Chapter of the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI) (2019-2022) and as a two-term Karnataka State Hospital Board Member of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) (2019-2023). He is a Trustee of the Christian Medical Association of India (CMAI) and a member of the Executive Board of Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore.
