Drug menace complaint raised in grievances redressal meetings organised by Police Commissionerate

Mangaluru, June 25, 2023: During public grievances redressal meetings organized by the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate at Ullal, Urva, and Surthakal police stations on Saturday, complaints regarding widespread drug abuse among youth and reckless driving took center stage.

Addressing the concerns raised at Ullal Police Station, Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Kumar R Jain assured the public that the police are actively working to combat the drug menace. At Urva Police Station, DCP (Crime and Traffic) B P Dinesh Kumar announced the launch of a special drive aimed at eradicating the drug problem in Mangaluru city by August 15.

In an effort to tackle this issue comprehensively, doctors have joined forces with the police. They plan to raise awareness among schoolchildren about the harmful effects of drugs. DCP Dinesh Kumar emphasized the importance of public collaboration in curbing drug abuse and guaranteed the confidentiality of informers’ identities. Furthermore, he urged parents to report any instances of drug consumption by their children to the police.

At Suratkal Railway Station, DCP (Law and Order) Anshu Kumar and Inspector Mahesh Prasad were informed about the theft of copper wires by young individuals from construction sites to finance their drug habits. Additionally, individuals were using tinted car windows to evade detection of illicit activities such as excessive drinking and drug abuse.

DCP Dinesh Kumar encouraged landlords to gather detailed information about prospective tenants before renting out a house or flat. He also advised them to maintain vigilance over their tenants’ activities. Inspector Bharathi from Urva Police Station echoed this sentiment and stressed the need for owners to keep thorough records of their tenants. Any suspicious behavior observed should be promptly reported to the police.

Furthermore, Inspector Bharathi announced that senior citizens would no longer need to visit the police station for passport-related matters. Instead, the police would visit their homes to assist with the necessary processes.
