Drugs menace will be dealt firmly: City Police Commissioner

Mangaluru, June 26, 2023: City Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain has said that the Police Department was taking all steps to free Mangaluru city from the menace of drugs.

 

Speaking to reporters in the city on June 26, Monday, he said those involved in drugs cases would be dealt strictly and added that the cops are keeping a strict vigil. Already awareness programmes against drug menace are being conducted in educational institutions, he said.

The Department is also initiating action against shops selling tobacco products and cigarettes in the vicinity of educational institutions, he said adding cases have been booked against 150 such shops.

The Department has also initiated measures towards counselling of those who have tested positive for drugs consumption, he said adding counselling has been provided to 100 such people so far.

The Commissioner further said almost 25% of those who consume narcotics are students and added that this year the police have seized 130 kg ganja and 550 grams synthetic drugs. A total of 38 drug peddlers have been arrested while 130 people were arrested for consumption of drugs, the Commissioner informed.
