Eminent danseuse Padma Subrahmaniam conferred Alva’s Virasat Award

Moodbidri, Jan 11,2013:  Alva’s Virasat, a national level cultural festival organised by Alva’s Education Foundation, got off to a spectacular start at Shobhavana, Mijar on January 10, Thursday.

D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, who inaugurated the colourful event following a grand procession,  said events like Virasat helped in spreading cultural awareness in the society.


While stressing the need to uphold  and nurture noble values, he also called upon the society to respect women and added imbibing values in society will go a long way in checking crime against women.


Renowned danseuse Padmabhushana Dr Padma Subrahmaniam, was conferred with the Alva’s Virasat Award  on the occasion. Responding to the great honour conferred on her, the eminent dancer said Alva’s  Virasat was an exemplary example on how culture and  education goes hand in hand.


N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, presided over the function. Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation  and several dignitaries were present.


A Raaga Lahari Fearing Carnatic vocalist Padmabhushan DM Balamuralikrishna and flutist Pandit Ronu Majumdar left the audience mesmerized.
