Mangaluru, Jan 14, 2024: On Saturday, January 13, the excise department police intercepted an individual transporting 114 boxes of Goa-manufactured liquor in a goods tempo vehicle destined for Kerala.
The arrested individual, identified as Radhakrishna Kamath, also known as Sadananda Kamath, hails from Honnavar and was apprehended at Mudipu-Netthilapadav. The officials confiscated liquor with a value of Rs 6,87,720 along with the goods tempo vehicle.
Kamath had craftily concealed the liquor beneath coconut shells within the vehicle, employing a method reminiscent of his previous arrest.
This incident marks Kamath’s second encounter with the law. On July 9, 2023, he was arrested by Kerala police in Kasargod for transporting 2484 litres of illegal liquor to Kerala. The case is currently in court proceedings, and despite facing charges, Kamath was granted bail.
As per the directives of the Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Mangalore Division, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Sub-Division Bantwal, the Excise Inspectors Lakshman Shivnagi and Sunil Bhandary, Doddappa, and Sadasiva Hakk, Ravi Narvekar, Arjun Bhagodi, actively participated in the enforcement activities.
