Exploitation of beedi workers must end: Debashish Roy

Mangaluru, Oct 31, 2022: Though the beedi workers’ movement has remained strong  since long,  beedi workers are today facing several problems and are also being deprived of their rights. The Unions need to respond to their issues at the grassroot level, said Debashish Roy, General Secretary of All India Beedi Workers Federation.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 10th state conference of the Karnataka State Beedi Workers Federation at the B Madhava Vedike of Don Bosco Hall on October 31, Monday.

The dispensaries opened for the needs of beedi workers have almost stopped functioning, even the ambulance services meant for beedi workers are not functioning. There is a need to further strengthen the movement of beedi workers, he said.

Meenakshi Sundaram, State Committee General Secretary of CITU, Sayyed Mujeeb, CITU General Secretary,  District Committee Secretary, Sunil Kumar Bajal, Krishnappa Salian, Yadav Shetty of CITU and others were present.

J Balakrishna Shetty, President of Karnataka State Beedi Workers Federation presided over the function.
