Fishing boat from Malpe capsizes near Bhatkal; all 7 fishermen rescued

Malpe, May 23, 2023: A boat which had ventured into fishing from Malpe has capsized near Bhatkal Netrani on Monday morning at around 6 am after it hit a rock. Seven fishermen on board the boat have been rescued.

 

The boat named Sea Bird belonged to Rahil of Udyavar. It had set sail from Malpe on May 21 night for deep sea fishing. However when the boat neared Bhatkal there was heavy rain  following which the boat went out of control and  hit a rock. Soon after sea water began entering the boat.

Fishermen from a nearby boat immediately rushed for help and an attempt was made to lift the boat using rope. However the rope snapped and the boat completely submerged. But all fishermen were rescued and brought to Malpe. The loss has been estimated at Rs 45 lakhs.
