On Friday December 16, 2022 afternoon, the Management and  team from ’Fiza Nexus Mall’ reached out to the very last, least and lost of the slum like settlement near the Fisheries College, adjacent to the Fisheries Cold storage and fish drying yard at Hoige Bazar, a historic area where more than 800 fisher folk most of them women and children live in jam packed metal sheet/plastic sheet shacks amidst heat and cold, dust and garbage with the scourge of drying fish all around - the lack of hygiene/sanitation is extreme. The plight of women and children living day to day in an utter primitive manner with little or no facility even in the 21st century is unbelievable. The men folk are daily labour of fishing boats out at sea for days, most of this community are of Tamil origin trying to eke out a meager living in Mangalore famous for its fish.

"Happiness for HER" is set to be ’An initiative to transform the narrative around periods’ that is taboo and misunderstood among the illiterate and down trodden women who face lack of health and suffering at every turn of life, said Arvind Srivastava head of the Nexus Center; he and his colleagues spearheaded and organised this generous maiden session.  Some of those present : Arvind Srivastava Center Head, Sunil Operations Manager, Nisha Anchan Facility Manager with facilty team Manjunath, Santhosh Kumar, Anisha Sheikh, Ullas Fernandes and staff.

The experts who spoke on the issues (which was an achievement of it’s own due to the language barrier) in a very practical and interactive manner were Dr. Suchitra Tunga MBBS., MD (OB/Gyn), Vinaya Hospital,  Ms. Saaksha M,  Clinical Dietician with a Masters and resource person on diet and lifestyle. All aspects of women’s hygiene and health care were exchanged and misunderstanding and awareness caused among the very needy group of people was dispelled.  There was much concern and a sense of care from all present and it was a wonder to note that the very shy and self-effacing simple women did their best to communicate and get advice and guidance about personal problems they face.  They all cheered the takeaway bag that was given to each of them which contained hand sanitizing liquid and a pack of Sanitary Pads and sweets.  The children were given sweets which was the cause for many lovely smiles. It is the start of a realistic effort to bring care, cheer, advice, concern and  solace where it is most needed.
