Mangaluru city’s fast development in athletics and sport could result in a major benefit to athletes practising in Mangala Stadium, the venue for the 19th Federation Cup senior national athletics championships. While this event will be organized under temporary floodlights, the Karnataka Amateur Athletics Association has accepted the idea of providing floodlights will take up thematter with the government.
Incidentally, K Abhayachandra Jain, minister for youth empowerment, sports and fisheries who was present, has not made any commitment on permanent floodlights, especially for the Federation Cup.
Paucity of Time : K Abhayachandra Jain, minister for youth empowerment, sports and fisheries who was present, reasoned that time for executing this project was too short. The amount of funding it entails would require tendering and hurried execution would invite shoddy execution of the project.
Minister Jain agreed the KAAA should approach the government for funding the project. He delegated Manjunath Bhandary, president of the Dakshina Kannada District Athletics Association to draw up and forward a proposal to the KAAA, which, in turn, would take up the matter with the state government through the department of youth empowerment and sports. Hope are high that the region will get a better sports arena profile.
